In the best case the world as we know it will end in about 5 billion years or so. The sun works through a process called nuclear fusion (if you can make this happen on Earth you will solve the world’s energy crisis). Without going into too much detail, it works by turning atoms (namely Hydrogen) into bigger atoms (namely Helium), and releasing energy because of this thing called the “mass defect”. But the maths of the mass defect means that when you get to Iron, you can’t release energy anymore. The sun then explodes (we call it “going supernovae” – we are lucky enough that this could happen to another star within the milky way within our lifetimes), taking the Earth with it.

Worst case, we continue polluting the planet and make the planet no longer able to keep anything alive, and all life as we know it ends. Maybe not in our lifetime, but not too much longer after. The Earth then stays as it is until the best case. Sadly I think this one is more likely 🙁

EDIT: Forgot Mars! Can’t say I see the point, myself. It’s a lot of money, and we don’t really know how to make the air breathable! Best left to the movies imo.
