      Bacterial cells are a lot smaller than plant or animal cells, I believe (from the top of my head) about 10x as small! That being said, there is a lot of variation, and some bacterial cells are large while others are smaller. From a bit of googling it looks like the smallest known is a bacterium called Mycoplasma gallicepticum..
      What I actually find more exciting is the largest cells! The neurons (nerve cells) in giant squids can be up to two metres long!!
