      Hi 255nbeq34,

The sun like most of the celestial bodies are round in shape because the gravitational force pulls everthing of the celestial body to a common center, which we know as the center of mass (which naturally produces a sphere as a shape)
      .
As for why only parts of the earth get the sun, this is because the earth is constantly rotating on its axis which turns the planet away from the sun. There are parts of the earth where you have really short days (Iceland for example at times of the year only has 4 hour days!)compaired to others (the equator) this is because the earth is actually tilted slightly on its axis which means the southern hemisphere recieves more sun (and by extension longer days!) Which places in the northern hemisphere get less light.
