Yes! Ebola goes through periods (like most diseases) when its number of cases are relatively low, but can reemerge years later during an outbreak (High number of infections).

Usually viruses like ebola have a “natural reservoir” host outside of humans where the virus or bacteria doesnt cause disease.

For example Campylobacter jejuni a bacteria that causes food poisoning in humans lives in chickens which do not get the symptoms.

Because of these natural reservoir it makes eliminating certian diseases super difficult!
