• Question: does what you have studied growing up help you with your daily life now as a scientist ?

      One course I’ve always studied was computers and it totally helped me in being a computer scient now 🙂

      Absolutely. People talk about “soft skills” all the time – these are things that you learn and develop without realising it. Things such as your ability to ask questions and explain things well to people (what we are doing now and both of us are improving), how well you manage your time or think of things on your feet, etc.

      Think of it less as absolute knowledge, and more of learning to have a healthy attitude and desire to want to know more stuff. Science isn’t all that much about being really brainy, it’s about knowing how to try really hard. A good education gives you and nurtures those skills. I believe that trying in school sets you up better to be a scientist more than anything. And even if you don’t want to be one, it still doesn’t hurt!
